FAQ

Are Inshape Training courses online?

Yes. All Inshape Training courses are delivered online through Zoom. Classes are taught live and recorded, so you can watch the recording if you're unable to attend a scheduled class.

Where do I start if I want to become certified?

Fitness Theory is the first step toward CFES certification. From there, your certification pathway will depend on whether you want to pursue Group Fitness, Weight Training or Personal Training.

Do I need previous fitness education or experience?

No. Fitness Theory is designed to provide the foundational knowledge you'll need before continuing into Group Fitness, Weight Training or Personal Training education.

What happens if I can't attend a live class?

All classes are recorded. Live attendance is recommended, but if you're unable to attend, you can watch the recording and keep up with course content, homework and assignments.

What's the difference between a course and a practicum?

Courses develop the knowledge and understanding required for certification. Practicums give you the opportunity to apply what you've learned, develop your practical skills and receive feedback from an instructor.

Are the practicums completed online?

Yes. Inshape Training practicums can be completed online through a flexible, self-paced process with guidance and feedback from your supervising instructor.

Do I have to purchase course manuals separately?

Yes. CFES course manuals and program booklets are purchased separately directly from CFES. Links and purchasing information are provided on the individual course pages.

What certification will I receive?

Inshape Training courses and practicums prepare students for certification through Canadian Fitness Education Services (CFES), a nationally recognized Canadian fitness certification organization.

How long does it take to become certified?

The time required depends on the certification pathway you choose, course scheduling and how quickly you complete your coursework and practicum requirements.

Can I complete my certification while working or studying?

Yes. Courses are scheduled online and classes are recorded, while practicums are completed through a flexible, self-paced process. You'll still be responsible for keeping up with coursework, assignments and certification requirements.

Do I need to complete exams to become certified?

Yes. CFES certification requires closed-book exams and practical evaluations (Instructor Skills Assessments) as part of the certification process.

Do I need First Aid and CPR certification?

Yes. Valid First Aid and CPR certification is required to maintain your CFES certification and may also be required for employment.

How do I maintain my CFES certification?

CFES certifications must be renewed annually or every two years. Renewal requirements include continuing education credits, verified instructional hours, and maintaining current First Aid and CPR certification. Visit the CFES website for current renewal requirements.

How can I earn continuing education credits?

Inshape Training offers Online Workshops and Webinars approved for CFES continuing education credits. You can also earn credits by completing additional CFES Instructor Courses.

Can I take online courses, workshops or webinars if I'm not CFES certified?

Yes! Inshape Training online courses, workshops and webinars are available to everyone. They're a great way to continue learning whether you're a certified fitness professional, current student or simply interested in expanding your knowledge.

Can I use my CFES certification outside Canada?

CFES certification is recognized within Canada. If you're planning to work outside Canada, contact CFES and the certification or employment organization in the country where you intend to work to determine their requirements.

Do I need insurance to work as a fitness professional?

Fitness professionals are required to carry professional liability insurance for employment. CFES can provide current information about insurance requirements and recommended providers.
